Flowers And Allergies

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
by Amy Nutt

Flowers are beautiful. They brighten up a room and make everything in it seem more beautiful, more cheerful. For most people a vase of flowers on the table signifies that that room is a happy one, a comfortable place to be. For allergy sufferers, however, a vase of flowers is far from inviting- it’s treacherous. If you’re one of those unlucky people who enjoys fresh flowers but has to consider the effect they’ll have on your allergies, plastic flowers are not your only option. You just have to know which types of flowers are dangerous. Of the huge variety of flowers that you can plant or buy, many types of flowers will affect your allergies very little- or even not at all.

Dangerous Flowers for Allergy Sufferers: Truth is, if your allergies are particularly severe, most flowers are going to affect you negatively. In general, the more dangerous flowers are the ones with more pollen. So a good guideline when decorating with flowers to avoid those ones that have visible pollen. One type of flower that is particularly bad for allergy sufferers is tree flowers. If creating a flower arrangement, be careful not to include almond, cherry, orange, or any other kind of tree blossom. Though they are beautiful flowers, they’re some of the most powerfully allergy-causing.

Lilies are some of the more dangerous flowers for allergy sufferers, as parts of them are covered in powdery orange pollen. Strangely enough, however, they can be a good choice for allergy sufferers, as it’s easy to simply remove the stems of pollen from each flower. Just have a non-allergic friend or family member do this particular job, as it will probably have you sneezing in two seconds flat.

Good Flowers for Allergy Sufferers: There are several types of flowers that will affect allergy suffers less. One of these is possibly mums and daisies. While regular mums and daisies do have lots of pollen, an new hybrid type of daisy, called formal doubles, that do not have any pollen at all, and therefore won’t aggravate allergies. Forma double flowers were bred so that the parts of the flower that used to produce pollen now produce petals. Watch out for regular mums and daisies, however, as they can be highly allergic. If in doubt, ask your florist.

Another great choice for the allergy sufferer is roses. Roses are some of the most beautiful and elegant flower you can find, and fortunately for allergy sufferers, they don’t have much effect on allergies. The reason for this is that their pollen is too large in size to be able to become airborne and truly infiltrate the respiratory system. If in doubt, choose roses with little or no smell- the less smell, the less pollen. Last but not least, one of the best kinds of flowers for allergy sufferers are orchids. Orchids are gorgeous and exotic flowers that come in an amazing variety of shapes and colors. Very few types of orchids cause any pollen-related allergies, and so are quite safe for those allergic to most flowers. It is important to note, though, that some orchids may cause a slight skin rash on sensitive individuals.

9 Adhd Parenting Tips

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
by Alvin Toh

Parenting ADHD children can be stressful, frustrating and overwhelming. ADHD children have a shorter attention span than other kids and they often anger easily when they don’t get their way.

It is possible to raise a well rounded child even if they have ADHD by following these 9 important ADHD parenting tips. These are designed to help you support your child.

1. Set down clear rules for your child to follow. These should be consistent. Do not change the rules as this can be very confusing. Make sure both parents use the same rules.

2. Establish routines. All children thrive when they follow a routine but this is especially true of ADHD children. Be strict about the times that things take place but be aware of the fact that your child may have a short attention span. Limit the time children can watch television, play video games or listen to music. Sticking to these rules allows time for the children to think on their own and to use their creativity.

3. Share the chores. Nobody likes doing chores, but it really does do your child a lot of good. Keep a chart so you can monitor what is being done. Awarding a gold star when a job is completed can make children with ADHD very happy! Make sure you show them how the tasks should be completed.

4. Determine your priorities. You should realize that it’s not possible for everything to get done. Make sure you focus on the things which are important.

5. Teach time management skills. ADHD children can benefit tremendously from learning the art of prioritization and time management. Often the child does not yet understand how to make these types of decisions. For older children utilize a planner or electronic organizers.

6. Break large tasks into smaller pieces. ADHD children may struggle to stay focused on one large specific task. By breaking it down into smaller ones, you can make the task less frustrating for you and your child.

7. Be patient. Parents need lots of patience to raise ADHD children. Don’t get too upset if certain tasks don’t get done. Give more time for completing and following up tasks. You must allow some extra time for mistakes, if your child does anything well then make sure you reward them.

8. Make sure you improve your communication with your child. You should spend time with them. Allow yourself plenty of time to talk with your child and get to know them. Try to encourage them to communicate as this will serve them well in later life.

9. Lead by example. You should show your child how they should behave, don’t expect them to do one thing while you do another. No matter what you say your child will always try to emulate you.

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
by Andrew Caxton

There are several common lawn care problems that you can avoid. These methods will help you.

A number of lawn care problems exist and each year threaten your beautiful, summer lush lawn. Even those that work hard at maintaining their lawn may face these problems. Take the time now to know what these problems are and how you can prevent them as well as overcome then when they happen to you. This will allow you to have great looking grass from spring through to fall and beyond.

Before one plant new grass and gardens one should do the following.

Check The Soil

Many of the most common lawn care problems start with poor quality soil. This causes the grass to have a less than ideal location to grown in. Have your local garden center test the soil for you. This will help to determine what organic matter you may need to supplement the current soil with. If you have a clay soil, then you can add additional substances in to make it a better choice for growing. You may also need to add starter fertilizers to the soil to help your new lawn to grow with the right nutrients. The final step in preparing the lawn is to have it tilled well. This opens up the lawn and provides the most air so that roots can develop well. It also helps the soil to retain water.

Proper Watering

Some lawn care problems start from having poor moisture in the soil. On the other hand, watering too much can be just as problematic. When you establish a lawn, you will need to water frequently. But, too much will cause the roots to never really establish themselves. Water infrequently whenever possible, but be sure that when you do water, that you water well so that the roots are wet. Watering the grass in the early morning is the best choice because in other times of the day, the water will quickly evaporate and never be used effectively by the grass. Watering in the evening can cause a number of diseases to grow there.

There is little doubt that some lawn care problems are likely to happen to you. Yet, you can prevent many of them from happening by installing these helpful tips in the way that you manage your lawn. From the first day that the sod is laid, have a solid foundation for your grass. Keep it healthy from the start so that in the long term, the grass has the best chance at maintaining its look and its health.

A Bit About Acoustic Guitar Chords

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
by Allison Thompson

Acoustic guitar chord is made up of several different notes, which a guitarist will play at one time together. Yet as you will soon discover there are lots of different acoustic guitar chords, but if you are able to learn just the basic ones, then you will be able to play hundreds even thousands of different songs on your guitar. As you will discover some of the major chords have quite a bright sound to them, whilst the minor ones will often make a much darker or sadder one.

The chords that you play on a guitar are notated using chord diagrams and those for the acoustic guitar are similar in ways to guitar tabs. The main difference however being that the lines, which represent the strings on the acoustic guitar, run vertically instead of horizontally. Often when you first look at a chord diagram all you will see before you is a grid.

The vertical lines represent the strings. The horizontal lines represent the frets. The dots represent where you are to hold the string down. You will also see numbers, either at the top or the bottom of the diagram which represent which finger you are to use to hold down each string, with 1 meaning index, 2 middle, 3 ring and 4 pinky.

Where you see a number 0, that string is left open and played. Where you see an X, that string is left open and not played. The thumb isn’t used too often, but when it is, it’s noted as T.

Now we have explained a little about what makes up an acoustic guitar chord now let us show you the positions you should place your fingers in order to play them. The first chord we are looking at is G-Major. To play this particular chord you need to place your middle finger on to the sixth string above the third fret. Then take your index finger and place this on to the fifth string above the second fret and finally take your ring finger and place this on the first string above the third fret. Once you have your fingers in place you need to play, each of the strings in the order shown one at the time (not altogether).

Make sure you can hear each note clearly and there aren’t any odd sounds like buzzing or rattling. If you hear something off, try pressing the string down harder on the fingerboard or move your finger closer to the fret. Also make sure that your fingers aren’t touching each other or any of the other strings. Once all of the notes sound good, strum them all at once. That’s a G-major acoustic guitar chord.

The next acoustic guitar chord we’re going to try is much easier on the fingering; E-minor. In this chord, you place your index finger on the second fret of the fifth string, and your middle finger on the second fret of the fourth string. Be sure to make enough room on the fret for both fingers without letting them touch each other. Try each of the notes out and adjust your fingering until you get the right sound. Strum the E-minor chord. Notice how the minor chord gives you a darker sound.

The other basic acoustic guitar chords that all would be guitarists should learn in the beginning are C-Major, D-Major, A-Major and A-Minor. As well as learning about positioning of the fingers in order to play these chords in order to become really proficient a person should spend a great deal of time practicing them. The more a person’s practices then the more likely they are to get their fingers into the right position more quickly and fluidly and so the sound quality they produce as they play will be greatly improved.

Deduction For Home Improvements May Be Possible

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
by Leroy Calstard

Who can properly answer home improvement tax deduction questions? This is a question that many find themselves asking. Homeowners and tax experts argue and discuss home improvement deductions on a regular basis. Due to the oscillating laws regarding these types of deductions, very few people are really clear on what they can and can not claim. Improvements on your home should never be done simply because you want to get a tax deduction. Making your home a better place can add value and comfort to your home and those should be the reasons why you complete them. Improve your house because you want to make a change, not because you are looking to claim exemptions on your taxes.

Typically there are no deductions allowed for homeowners that improve their house. However, you can still get some benefit from improving your home later on. By increasing the value of your home you will acquire more equity. The more equity you have, the more money you will make. So the lack of tax deductions is not a reason not to perform home improvements. In the long run there will be financial benefits of some kind.

As with most tax deduction scenarios, there are ways that tax deductions can be taken for home improvements. An example of this is, if a member of your household is disabled and there must be repairs made to create more accessibility for them, these type of improvements can be deducted. This type of situation is a medical concern which is why it can be deducted from taxes. When performing home improvements more than seven percent of income must be spent for you to be able to take these deductions. It is important, however to remember that home improvements that are unrelated to medical issues may not be tax deductible.

Home improvements that are made for business purposes are also sometimes tax deductible. If you need to put in a new bathroom or build on wing for an office, you might be able to take a tax deduction for these improvements. This is covered underneath the tax rules that allow deductions for home business expenses. Whenever you have a home based business there is room for deductions. Remodeling is included in these deductions. However, once again, these types of deductions should not be taken for granted. Find out if the repairs you made qualify.

Taking tax deductions for any type of home improvement can be tricky. The best way to safeguard yourself is to consult a tax professional. Reading the guidelines can be confusing for most. Seeking out a professional is recommended. This is the best way for you to keep yourself from being penalized for taking deductions that you are not qualified to take.

Our Diet World - Just A Golden Cage?

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
by Chaszey Sandhriel

If our grandparents and great-grandparents knew how the diet-, food- and pharmaceutical industries have a hold on us, they would surely turn in their graves. There is a pill for everything, there is a diet for everyone and every body style, even every blood type. Today we are bombarded with “shoulds” and “should not’s” and people feel guilty for eating foods in the first place. Some feel that just looking at foods makes them gain an ounce (heavens forbid). What a joke!

We are bombarded with these attitudes that program our minds and thus are consumed with information that only serves to confuse us and make us feel overwhelmed and stressed out. And then we suffer from heart disease, early strokes or get diagnosed with diseases that didn’t exist 10 or 20 years ago.

What has happened to us as a society? Why do these industries have such a hold on us? And since when have we become their slave?

Our bodies are meant to be healthy vehicles for us and food was meant to be here to nourish our bodies and for us to enjoy and savor it. Somehow over the past few decades, our bodies have become our enemies that are forever imperfect and need to be molded, reshaped and even go under the knife for corrections. I dare you to regain your freedom and gratitude for your body and to stop putting it through so much torture.

Here are four pointers that will help:

1. Stop looking for answers “out there:” No matter what you’re looking for, you already have all the answers. If you have been diagnosed with a disease, ask your Higher Self for the reasons. You manifested the disease, you allowed it to happen, ask your Higher Self why you manifested whatever it is you’re experiencing and how to heal yourself. Remember that we are never given more than we can handle, and when it seems like we are given too much, there is always a way out. Seek the answer and you will find it.

2. Meditate and breathe: In order for you to access your Higher Self you must learn to meditate and spend time with your Self; start by breathing deeply and deliberately while sitting in silence. This may be the hardest thing to do for some people because as a society we have become human doings instead of human beings. Peace comes from being in a state of being, not a state of doing.

3. Make use of your body: Our bodies were created to move us around from place to place, for physical labor and to help us achieve what we have come to achieve here on Earth. In European countries people walk an average of 2 miles per day just by doing every day things. In the US we barely walk at all because of the convenience of our cars, or because we just too lazy. Your body longs to move around; sign up for a gym membership or purposely go about using your body by getting your heart rate up and sweating at least once a day.

4. Learn to love all of your body: I can’t tell you how many people I have heard say that they hate a certain part on their body, or even all of it. Yet if our country’s leader would announce that he hated all of its citizens we would have immediate war. 70 billion living cells manage the functions of our bodies and yet when we tell one body part that we dislike it then we do just that: we declare war on the entire body. Instead help your 70 trillion living cells to cooperate with each other so they can work on rebuilding your body and keeping your body healthy. Start by expressing to your body how grateful you are for the things that do work and the body parts that do look great. Feel your 70 trillion living cells relax and come to peace with what their jobs are and watch a miracle take place right within your own body. Soon your body will be your greatest ally and your best friend and will give you all the energy you need so you can be empowered and about your true purpose here.

Dolby Digital Will Transform Your Audio

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
by skg9

A name that would be familiar to most people if not simply by virtue of the movie theaters is Dolby Digital technology. It can be seen in all the precursor advertising credits of the movies before and after they run with a notification such as Dolby Digital Surround Sound. It has become synonymous with with high tech impressive sound delivery, and these days this technology is available (almost as standard) in most electronic sound equipment we buy.

Dolby Digital denotes the encoding system that is used by modern audio devices that digitally receives and sends sound signals. Being one of the first laboratories to release and successfully have their technology competitively marketed to consumers and and even more importantly, accepted, as a leader of superior audio listening. They have succeeded in becoming prominent in this field.

Having the ability to support several channels the Dolby Digital technology enables the ability to disseminate in mono or stereo quality. Used primarily in digital equipment like CD players, Tv’s and DVD’s and of course the movie theaters there is a variation that is used in the video gaming industry to make that feeling even more realistic.

A man by the name of Ray Dolby began the phenomenon about 50 years ago. He started by wanting to cut down the white noise and ever present static commonly found in audio devices back then. The overall clarity was degraded by this static noise, so Mr Dolby set about finding a solution to this problem. Initially the Dolby Digital technology was used by record companies but very quickly was embraced by the movie theaters.

As a result the Dolby Digital technology was born. Originally it was in a very compressed formatting aimed at the movie theaters. The first time this technology was used en mass was in a movie by the name of “Batman Returns” in 1992. It merged a stereo sound using left and right channels to produce a much more sharp sound. As a result of the success of this initial movie it became the standard way to make movie sound systems.

The original Dolby Digital moves onward, having made it’s mark the technology has and will continue to improve over time. It’s legacy of changing the way moviegoers experience the theater continues with further immersion of sight and sound melding together to enhance the story and helping to create a pleasant and sometimes exciting memory. Having jumped from an elitist movie theater experience to the home was the next logical step. Home theaters have become the “in thing” where surround sound systems blast acoustic sounds in waves that vibrate the bones of the audience, it is no wonder that Dolby Digital is embraced and applauded for it’s contribution to entertainment.

Everyone loves a magician! If you plan on being a magician yourself, well, first thing’s first: You have to learn some magic tricks, and part of that means learning some basic magic trick secrets. Fortunately, plenty of them are easy to learn and don’t need a lot of props.

Playing cards and coins are the props for some of the most common tricks. They’re great fun, and they require both technical and misdirection skills.
